COLBY CONQUERS MT. WASHINGTON ON TOPOLINO WHEELS

Mount Washington, NH - On August 20 a Massachusetts native rode his bike up a formidable mountain in New Hampshire using an ultra-light pair of wheels made in Connecticut. At the center of this New England triangle is twenty-six year old Anthony Colby, one of the stars of TargeTraining, an upstart elite amateur bicycle racing team based in Westport, Connecticut. Colby braved gusting winds at the summit to finish the Volkswagen Mt. Washington Auto Road Hill Climb in second place, just four minutes behind former Tour de France contender and Olympic gold medal winner Tyler Hamilton. Colby, hailing from Dedham, MA, finished the 7.6 mile climb in just 55 minutes and 12 seconds, two places ahead of mountain bike legend Ned Overend, who shattered the record for riders over 40 years of age by several minutes. More than 600 competitors entered the event, gaining 6,288 feet before reaching the top of the famed and formidable Mt. Washington.

Mr. Colby chose to ride exotic wheels hand-made in Bethel, CT, by Topolino Technology. “As soon as I started racing on these wheels I was riding better,” Colby said. “When I pounce on them there is no flex, and they are so much better when I am out of the saddle and need a fast wheel.”

“They really came in here and set up shop – satellite truck and all. It was pretty impressive to see the crew work,” quipped Rafe Schlanger, Topolino’s founder. “We are very proud of what we do here. It is a true combination of advanced materials, high technology, and precision craftsmanship. And we are continuing Connecticut’s rich manufacturing heritage,” continued Schlanger. “We were very excited to be selected by WTNH, but we are also thankful that we don’t have to show up at 5:00 AM every morning,” said Topolino’s Jason Sommerville.
